For your second posting, You should have read at least 30 pages of your book so far (if not more). In your writing, please tell us about the following:

1. What is the title of your book? Who is the author?
2. What page are you on?

3. QCQ: Quote, Comment, Question
-Quote: Choose an excerpt from the text and share it here in quotation marks and with the page number.
-Comment: Explain why you chose this section of the text and what you think is interesting/provocative about it.
-*Question: Pose a question about the section that might extend the reader's thinking or might help a reader of your blog make a connection to his or her own life. Your question should extend what you are reading out into themes that humanity as a whole can connect to/relate to. For example, if your book quote has a character named Joe who wants to become a doctor but can't afford school, your question might be: What are some obstacles in the way of you getting what you want? or What hopes and dreams do you have for the future?. Your question should NOT be something like, What is Joe's mother's name? Your extension question should be something anyone reading this section most likely would be able to answer.

For your comment to a peer, read their post and respond to the question that they pose at the end of #3.

Mr.Mercedes by Stephen KIng
pg286
QCQ: “The truth is darkness, and the only thing that matters is making a statement before one enters it. Cutting the skin of the world and leaving a scar. That's all history is, after all: scar tissue.” This is a really great quote because it's a very unique point of view on history. Most authors write something very poetic and flamboyant. I think that the more “morbid” points of view ,like this one, tend to be more eye opening, and boundary pushing.
Q: What is your point of view on history, and what is has done for the world?

Currently, history hasn’t really done much for us because we haven’t really learned from our mistakes as much as one may suspect. Considering the ample amount of time we have had to reflect on our mishaps. Of course this is a controversial topic but the question was asking for it opinion. And that is my opinion:

The way that I look at history is at a neutral perspective because there has been a lot of times where the hasn't been equality in the world. Something that the world has done for me is let me live on it.

I view history as I would a teacher or a text book. I think you should learn from it and use the best part;s of it in what you can and learn how to stop the bad parts as early as possible. I think history is a constant reminder to the world of what humans have done very well, very bad, and what we have done throughout our time on this earth.

I believe that history is useful so that humans as a civilization, or countries as countries do not make the same mistakes they did in the past. I also think that history is not the type of thing to spend hours a day learning about because I think only some of it is important. I don’t think I need to know when and where a specific event happened. Overall, history has taught us many lessons and interested us in the past, but in my opinion not all of it really matters.

History has pushed humans forward in the technology department, but we don't seem to learn from our mistakes. We keep on being the greedy and selfish people we are. That will most likely be our downfall, and cause extinction.

My point of view in history is that it has been dark. Its had its ups and downs. I feel like it has shaped the people that live in the us and has really segregated the us population. Great question Dani!

I like how the "scar tissue" relates to the world and to history. Things in the world are breaking apart, but sometimes there are important events in the world like Environment. There's positive and negative. Light and dark. Happy and sad. Theres a good side and a bad side which has some different kind of historical ways to say How the world is a like a scar tissue with so many layers (emotions).

My point of view on history is that everyone should know it. The reason for this is so people in the future don't repeat the mistakes that happened in the past. What has history done in the world? Other than what I said before, there have been a lot of bad things that have happend.

I am reading a really light book called moxie by Jennifer mathieu. I am on page 82. The quote that I decided to use is “like we’re each other’s golden egg on some strange Easter hunt”. I realize that this quote is a little out of context and most likely don’t make sense to majority of you, yet I tought it would be a good quote to use because it gives a lot of space for creative thinking. To me this quote means that these people are of very high value, as a golden egg would be on Easter. I think that referring to people as well known traditions helps the reader connect to the quote or put it in a context that they may comprehend better. One question that I can pose that related to this quote is, What would be your golden egg at an Easter hunt? It has to be a non materialistic item, such as an experience, feeling, accomplishment or a wish.

Wonder Woman - Warbringer by Leigh Bardugo
Page 162
"We cannot spend our lives in hiding, wondering what we might accomplish if given the chance. We have to take that chance ourselves."

I chose this quote because it struck me a lot. I always wonder what i could/could have accomplished, but im always scared to do it. I am trying to make myself stop wondering and to just do it.

What chance will you take if you have the opportunity? Do you normally wonder and don't do it? How are you motivating yourself to do it?

I see the world as a blank piece of paper. You have the option to fill it in any way you wish, but you only have so much room on that paper. The world allows you to make your own choices for almost everything; our freedom is limitless. You can turn the paper over to use both sides, rip pieces off, but once you crumble the paper and throw it away, you have no more chances.

The Things They Carried by Tim O’Brien
Page 54
“I was too good for this war. Too smart, too compassionate, too everything. It couldn't happen. I was above it.” pg. 41
These are tim’s thoughts after seeing the drafting notice come in the mail. It leads the reader to think that the war is unwelcoming and will strip you of your goodness. He felt too “good” to be in the war. He felt he was someone too compassionate or smart to lose that in battle. That someone fit for battle was opposite, an incapable worthless body just to add to their numbers.

I think if someone feels passion and has a good head on their shoulders i don't see why they not. But its not good to throw someone with depression or other issues into battle so quickly. I would easily join a fight if i felt a passion for it. I would stay away if it meant fighting for something i don't agree with.

Comment: A little bit of context to this quote, in this story a gay man that got beat to death and robbed by two men. This woman was getting interviewed and stated the quote that I chose. I want equality between all ethnic and gender backgrounds. All the organizations like black lives matter or any racial or gender lives matter organization shouldn't exist at all. All lives matter that's it there's no reason to categorize certain people because then you start to contribute to the problem.

I think no one should be judged critically until you have properly gotten to know them. I have respect for everyone until it is proven that they aren't worthy of it, but everyone needs that 1st chance. Upon learning more about the person it's you choice to decide if you particularly like them or not. But things that people have no control over like illnesses or deformities etc, should not be judged because changing that is simply not in their control

whiskey words & a shovel I, r.h. Sin Pg.77

Quote:
“ it hurts but I find myself
pretending to be fine
“I’m okay” had become my favorite lie
and my smile is usually a mask
that hides the truth in what I feel
I’ll say nothing because
you’ll think I’m weak
I’ll say nothing and let
my silence speak
the gift and curse of the broken
being able to hide behind lies
of happiness
the gift of being strong in a moment
of weakness”
I chose this quote because it shows how broken this author had been and how probably other people are broken in the inside as well. So many smiles we see so many laughter we hear and we think they’re okay, right ? Yeah we do but actually some aren’t, they probably want to break and escape that olé that they’re in but can’t because they’re afraid of probably being laughed at being weak or can’t handle it.
Do you think that the people you see crying or ask for help on something that’s bringing them down make them weak ?

I am reading The Butterfly Garden by Dot Hutchison, and I'm on page 47.

I chose the excerpt "Beauty loses its meaning when you're surrounded by too much of it." -Page 34 This quote from my book intrigued me because when I read it, it felt true and powerful. Something that may seem beautiful to someone may lose its meaning and beauty if there is too much of it. When there is too much of it or it is overpowered, it's beauty lowers to just average and does hold its full capability and standards.

A question I can pose is, What is something that you saw as beautiful, but no longer see in that way because of someone elses thoughts or your own?

I think the world is so gorgeous and want to appreciate every aspect, but I guess when you've seen something so often, even the most gorgeous of sights can become boring.

There is no meaning to life unless you choose to give it meaning. Humans were an accident, different circumstances presented to an ancient ancestor led us to evolve in to what we are today: sentient, free-thinking beings. Mankind is just a smudge on the timeline of the entire universe. Meaning in life is different for every person, and that question won't have a definite, general answer (well wow this seems really long and unnecessary). My meaning in life, what really gets me going, gets me through the day, is seeing my friends I guess? I've never really thought about it before. Maybe I haven't really found what the meaning of life is yet, but whatever, thats fine. I love you jobbnobbloer. say hola to julian;s familia from us

Life is meant to be lived for the experiences. I don't think someone has lived until they have done the things they did and didn't want to do. You live life for yourself, it's all about creating who you are and if you're lucky- leaving your legacy for the generations to come

Book: Upgrade Specialist in Another World
Author: 茫茫云海 (Endless Sea of Clouds)

“ Just as I thought, I need a real fight to really see me
at my best. Thank you everyone. With you guys as my friends, I feel that I’ve used up all my luck in my life.”
-Bai Yunfei (chapter 376)

I chose this quote because it embodies what strength is and the value of the friends around you. Into the book, Bai Yunfei found himself in the Soulbeast Forest where he was put into a squad. Over the course of a week Bai Yunfei managed to create some great bonds, and with these binds came great teamwork. They worked together to hunt various soul beasts, and finally managed to find what they seeked. Yet, he was met with one of the most challenging fights he has had in awhile, a late stage soul exalt(one of the most powerful figures at this current time) took interest in his equipment. Killing was in the enemies nature, so naturally he tried to kill Bai Yunfei and the group. In the end, Bai Yunfei told them to run, while he had fought with the soul exalt. He was put into very concerning circumstances and had to resort to using a very complicated method that shouldn’t be rushed.

From Here to Eternity: Traveling the World to Find a Good Death.
Caitlin Doughy

"It is morally wrong to claim that the West has superior death rituals to those of the rest of the world." I absolutely agree with this quote to the fullest extent, for us to claim that putting our dead in the ground and burning their flesh is superior to a tribe consuming the deceased. If we told them to start burning the body's and crush their bones to keep the dust they would most likely be mortified, just like most are when they hear they partake in cannibalism on the deceased. Every place has its own history and death options. Just because ours is different doesn't mean we should despise others.
Do you think we should have more death options other than the legal ones today? (Mummify, cannibalize, alkaline hydrolysis, etc.) or stick to the basics? (Cremate, Embalm and bury.)

I really like the quote you chose, It is very powerful and me me think about people in my life. Coming from a white person I think that black history month is a really awesome time to celebrate powerful people. It seems to me like every other month is white history month, so it's cool to have a change.

C: This quote may not seem all that spectacular, but for the main character Jonas it is life changing. He lives in a dystopian society where the government controls everything including the emotions of people. In this society they have a commitee that assigns jobs. Jonas is assigned receiver of memory, which is considered to be a very prestigous job. He discovers that in his job he is allowed to lie, which he usually isn't allowed to.

C: What would life be like if you couldn't lie? Do you Lie a lot? Why?

Life would be different, people would have better friends but those who don't get along very well would be not very well liked because they could not lie about their hatred for others. I don't lie a ton but when I do its mainly to protect someones feelings or thoughts.

I’m reading the princess saves herself in this one by Amanda Lovelace.

I’m on page 216

QCQ: “a world where all human beings are taken care of shouldn’t be called a “revolutionary” way of life & yet it is. -Burn” This specific poem just perfectly depicts the world and how we value living in a free country where we are known for being taken care of all the time but in reality it shouldn’t be. Everywhere everyone should feel taken care of in some way making it a basic human right, instead of it being revolutionary. Taking care of people doesn’t require technology, or billions of dollars. Just some love and a little extra time. I also love the use of burn at the end because it just uses the perfect amount of sarcasm to sum up the powerful ness of the thought.
Q: What has been considered revolutionary, that shouldn’t have been?

3.“But why? I don’t think you will kill me, Draco. Killing is not nearly as easy as the innocent believe…” Chapter 27 ,page 586. This is when Dumbledore is about to die and Draco is threatening him. This part of the book is very sad because a loved character is killed. When I first read this part I did cry! It's sad because you get so emotionally wrapped up in this and something like this happens and the story takes a complete 360. I was so nervouse to whats comming and when Snape ended up killing him i was so confused and astonished!!

Question: Draco is foreced/thretened by Voldermort to kill Dumbledor but Snape does it in the end. Draco obiously didn’t really want to do this but, he did it because voldermort would have killed Draco and his family. So the question is, If your family or (important person) was being threatened, would you kill someone to protect them?

This is a very deep question indeed, but it totally depends on the scenario. I will try to stay away from murdering someone as much as I can of course, I would never want to murder anyone. If the person I had to kill was someone very important to many people, such as the worlds best doctor or something like that, then I wouldn't kill them for my family or someone less important to humanity. However, if it was someone I truly cared about or is very important to humanity as a whole and the person I had to kill was someone evil or a threat, I would consider murder but it would be entirely out of self-defense.

The title of my book is The Hobbit, the author is JRR Tolkien.
I am on page 130.
“A very good tale. The best I have heard for a long while. If all beggars could tell such a good one, they might find me kinder. Said Beorn” pg 124
I chose this quote because I think it represents the character Beorn very well. Beorn is a man that doesn't interact with humans much and when he does he usually isn't very hospitable, but because these men have told him a good tale he is very nice and feeds them supper. Beorn before and during the story was being told was very angry/ annoyed that so many strangers were showing up at his house but as they showed up and as the story progressed he relaxed more.
EXAMPLE
In the Hobbit the goal of the dwarves and bilbo is to get back to the misty mountain and fight the dragon to reclaim their home. Some challenges they have faced is the goblins capturing them, the wargs scaring them into the trees, and the giants that almost ate them.

Have you ever had a goal that you really wanted to accomplish? What was it? What were some challenges?

My book is Artemis Fowl by Eoin Colfer. I have the first read 30 pages.

3: "It was Artemis the First, our subject's father, who had thrown
the family fortune into jeopardy. With the break-up of communist
Russia, Artemis Senior had decided to invest a huge chunk of the Fowl
fortune in establishing new shipping lines to the vast continent. New
consumers, he reasoned, would need new consumer goods. The
Russian Mafia did not take too kindly to a Westerner muscling in on
their market and so decided to send a little message. This message
took the form of a stolen Stinger missile launched at the Fowl Star on
her way past Murmansk. Artemis Senior was on board the ship, along
with Butler's uncle and 250,000 cans of cola. It was quite an
explosion.
The Fowls were not left destitute, far from it. But billionaire
status was no longer theirs. Artemis the Second vowed to remedy this.
He would restore the family fortune. And he would do it in his own
unique fashion."

I chose this quote because it gives a little bit of backstory to WHY Artemis (The Second) is trying to steal gold from fairies.

Question: If you had to restore your family's fortune, how would you do it?

The book I'm reading is Gideon Smith and the Mechanical Girl by David Barnett. I'm on page 73, where some interesting things have happened, such as one of the main characters have found out of the existence of vampires, and how they're nothing how he originally thought they were.

Q: "The vampire turned and smiled, its teeth the distended fangs of legend, its lower jaw slick with dark blood. But the face was that of a singularly beautiful woman..."

C: This is interesting because people thought that he was crazy for believing vampires still existed in the 19th century. But on his search for Count Dracula, he actually found Dracula's wife. She was friendly towards him and told him everything he thought he knew about vampires was a lie.

The title of my novel is Eleanor and Park by Rainbow Rowell. I am on page 60.
I chose the quote, “She never looked nice. She looked like art, and art wasn’t supposed to look nice; it was supposed to make you feel something.”
Photography is the art that I appreciate most. When I’m taking and looking at photos I feel a different feeling then when I’m looking at anything else. But it’s a good feeling. I reproduce moments of that feeling of amazement when you first see it in person. It makes me feel grateful for the life I live and that I’m able to live in this very moment. If I take a picture of a sunset then I’m capturing the feelings and being able to look back and have almost that same feeling. How does art make you feel? Do you agree with the quote that art isn’t supposed to look nice?

“Right now?”
“Sure.”
“Not good. I’m not doing so good right now.”
“That sucks.”
“Well, it’s obviously your fault.”
“Well, duh.”
(this book doesn’t contain page numbers)

In this scene of the book, Scott gets a call from his ex-girlfriend who he hasn’t talked to in forever. This scene is very essential to the story and is one of the most thrilling parts of the book. The expression on Scott’s face in this part of the book is very prominent and is nothing like we have seen in any of the art so far. This moment we also see Scott confess that he isn’t doing well at all, and the entire reason is because of her. This means that Envy, his ex-girlfriend, might be the main cause of Scott’s sadness. This is really interesting and make us, the reader, want to know what exactly she did to hurt Scott so badly.

My question is: Are you the type of person to face your problems with another person head on as soon as possible, or do you wait it out and ignore them?

I feel like this question really depends on the situation and just how much the person means to you losing people sometimes is good and other times and bad. For me if the person means a lot to me I take on the problem right away to sort things out and just make sure I don't lose them. Though if a problem were to start between me and someone that has treated me poorly in the past, I wouldn't really feel a need to get to fixing things all fast. Cause when a problem comes along it could be cause someone hurt me or I hurt someone else and which in that case if someone hurt me I know that person isn't worth fixing things between but if I might have hurt someone else and they mean a lot to me I would what to know I won't lose them.

"Step Out of Your World
When you’re going after goals, you can sometimes become set in your ways. you might wear the same lucky socks every game or eat the same breakfast before every game, or more broadly speaking, just develop the same mind-set before every big challenge or step. But venturing outside your comfort zone can be really good for you. Exploring other cultures is so important, whether you do it on vacation or by reading a book. I learned things from playing against Italians that made my game  better. Don’t get into a rut. Constantly try to expand your worldview so you can dive into your goals with a well-rounded mentally."

COMMENT:
I chose this part of the text because one thing really stood out to me. They had coffee. I really thought this would have been impossible for a few reasons. One, they were discriminated against, and in the 1900s coffee was still a special commodity so I thought it was unlikely the government would allow them to have it. And, two, they are in the middle of nowhere. The area where they are currently at in the book is right on a lake 5 hours away (by car) to the nearest large city, Lulea.

“Taking the kids from our districts, forcing them to kill one another while we watch – this is the Capitol’s way of reminding us how totally we are at their mercy. How little chance we would stand of surviving another rebellion. Whatever words they use, the real message is clear. “Look how we take your children and sacrifice them and there’s nothing you can do. If you lift a finger, we will destroy every last one of you. Just as we did in District Thirteen.” (Page 18). And I've talked to the same man before and he was perfectly nice in the past. But the last time, he was being rude to me saying hurtful bad words.

This means that when Esperanza personifies the trees outside her house, she thinks of them as reaching. Esperanza, who likens herself to the trees, must also be reaching for something. Does she even know, or is her only reason "to be and be"?

I chose this qoute because i can overall connect to it and i believe this qoutes is kind of what i want to live by because i want to chase my dreams like the sheaperd boy and i really just want to do what i have dreamed of

One question i have is if you had the oppurtunity would you follow your dreams throwing away all of what you have acheived earlier

I am Malala by Malala Yousafzal and Christina Lamb. The main character in my story is Malala Yousafzal she is very brave and isn´t afraid. When the Taliban took control of the Swat Valley, one girl spoke out. Malala Yousafzai refused to be silenced and fought for her right to an education. On Tuesday October 9, 2012, she almost paid the ultimate price. I can relate to her because I like to speak up when their something that I don't like or when I want to give my opinion.

“We realize the importance of our voices only when we are silenced.” This quote opened up my eyes to make me see how important our voices can we and how we only start realizing that when we start noticing movement that we aren’t okay with or that we notice that doesn’t seem right and we give our opinions we see the change the change that we like the change that we noticed that our voice been heard. When was a time that you noticed the Power of your voice?
