FICTION:
Spend this reading log talking about one character in depth.

1. What book are you reading and who is it by?

2. Choose one character. What is this character's name? What are some of his or her physical traits? Personality traits?

3. What makes this character different from other characters in the text? Does this character have anything in common with other characters?

4. Can you connect with this character on any level? How?

5. Talk about this character's relationship with other characters.

NON-FICTION:
1. What book are you reading and who is it by?

2. Copy a short passage that you found to be interesting in your text. Explain what made this passage interesting for you?

3. Do you feel like this author is believable? Does he/she write with any bias? Explain.

4. What connections can you make to this text? What does this text remind you of?

5. Explain one thing that you've learned so far that you have not already mentioned.

POETRY:
1. What book are you reading and who is it by?

2. Copy up to 10 lines of poetry from your text here. (If it is a bit longer and you want us to see the whole poem, you may put the whole poem here, but try not to make it overwhelmingly long!)

3. What do you like about the excerpt you provided above? Why did you pick this section of your poetry book?

4. What personal connections can you make to this poem? Who or what does this poem reinde you of?

5. Identify literary devices that appear in this poem (rhyme, simile, metaphor, imagery, etc.). What do these devices do for this poem?

Read and respond to at least one other students' work. When you respond, point out one thing you enjoyed about reading their response and ask one question that you have for this person regarding their reading.
