1. What is the title of your book? Who is the author? The book I am reading is Booked by KwamebAlexander.

2. Why did you choose this book? I choose this book because it falls into the subject of Soccer.

3. Comprehension: What has happened so far in the book? In the book “Nick Hall” is playing in a final vs Real Madrid and he scores the game winning penalty.

4. Significance Question (Pick one or more of the following choices to answer):
*What has happened so far that feels important? Why? So far Nick Hall scores a game winning penalty vs a big club i from of 90 thousand people and I feel that his is important because maybe this is the rising action to where his career will take him too.
*Is there any part that you've read so far that gives you a clue to why the book as a whole is valuable? Which part or parts?
*Why should people care about this story?
*Is this piece relevant to everyone? Who? Who isn't it relevant to?
*If you had to distill the most important parts of what you've read so far to one sentence, what would that sentence be?

5. Connection Question (Pick one or more of the following choices to answer):
*How can you connect this piece to current events, to the past, or to the future? I can connect this piece to a year ago when I played in a tournament and my team was in the exact same position as Nick Halls team. Later then my team went on to score the final fourth penalty in the tournament.
*What personal connections can you draw to these two chapters? Do these characters remind you of anyone or anything in your own life?
*How does any part of this connect to any other area of your learning? (Maybe other subjects/texts that you have studied in the past or present?)
*Do these two chapters connect to anything you've read in the past? What? How?
*What other relationships/connections can you draw between these two chapters and your life, the world, other literature, history, or other art? Well a connection that I can make with this is that in life you will always have a lot on your shoulders and you will only have one chance to “score” and you need to make it.

1. What is the title of your book? Who is the author?
The title of the book I’m reading is The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas.
2. Why did you choose this book?
I choose this book because it talks deeply about racism which is something I feel very strong about.
3. Comprehension: What has happened so far in the book?
So far in the book ‘The Hate U Give’, a sixteen year old girl named Starr’s childhood best friend, Khalil, is shot and killed by a policeman while she is with Khalil after a party. A few days after he gets shot, it becomes all the neighborhood she lives in is talking about. Except only few people know she was with when Kahlil got shot. Everyone is fighting to understand what went on the night Khalil got shot but Starr and her family are protecting her from what might happen if she tells everyone.
4. Significance Question (Pick one or more of the following choices to answer):
Is there any part that you've read so far that gives you a clue to why the book as a whole is valuable? Which part or parts?
The fact that this book is about racism and how a cop shot an african-american teenager who was unarmed and followed all the rules the police officer was giving him makes this book valuable especially the part of the book when Khalil got shot. This is a valuable book as a whole because the book touches on the problem that has occurred a lot recently that has become a much bigger deal.
Why should people care about this story?
People should care about this story because it talks about the reality of racism and how it's everywhere even in the smallest safest places like classrooms.
5. Connection Question (Pick one or more of the following choices to answer):
*How can you connect this piece to current events, to the past, or to the future?
This book was recently published after many events happening close together when cops were shooting people for really no reason at all. I remember seeing headlines, like “Texas police shoot dead 15-year-old African American”, for over a year. Last year, 2016, over 950 people were shot and killed by police. So, yes, my book connects to current events.

The title of my book is " I'm Really a Superstar " by Chang Yu

I chose this book because it was different than the Xianxia genre which is normally immortal cultivation, someone who grows up to be a hero, this book is different and I wanted to try it out.

In the beginning of the book, it talks about the main character Zhang Ye, someone who wanted to be famous by becoming a radio host, his whole life set ahead of him. He spent his life looking at masterpieces, whether they were poems, ghost stories, couplets, proses, history and songs. One day he receives a particular dream where his world is altered, almost everything known to be famous has disappeared and has instead been replaced with different masterpieces. He can go round and about plagiarizing works of art freely because this world doesn't have them, and gives him a shot of being famous. Zhang Ye wakes up to find a game interface showing his reputation, the amount of people we left in awe throughout his entire life, it came with a lucky wheel giving him items to help him become even more famous. Right now, that has recently happened was his colleague passed away away to overexertion, Editor Wei a kindhearted old man who supported the education of over 100 kids passed away because Old Wei had defended a girl who was being molested by hitting him with a chair. The molester turned out to be the son of the chief of the TV station where Editor Wei worked, for 7 years the chief gave Editor Wei the lowest salary, made him work overtime for 200 day out of the 365 days in a year without any extra pay. At Old Wei's funeral, Zhang Ye is going to teach the Chief of the television station a lesson, With the knowledge of the other world, there are poems that reprimand or insult others which I think Zhang Ye's going to use.

Some parts in the book that I feel are most important are the game interface that provides the main character with the items necessary to help make the main character famous. One example would be his looks, they are mediocre and can't be described as handsome which is a drawback that can't be changed, with the lucky spin having 4 categories which are consumables(one-time use item), skills(skills in the real world like calligraphy, martial arts), stats(speech, voice, looks can be improved), and special which unlocks an item from the shop. In this case, stats give him a chance to look good.

Something in common in the book to what I'm learning would be poetry, we have been reviewing short stories and poems the past week from various authors and I think this book matches the theme that was set. This book includes the work of many famous authors and includes poems, history, novels which makes it interesting.

Maya Lewitt-
1. The book is Wonder Woman by Leigh Bardugo
2. Wonder Women always fascinated me and when i saw the book in target i thought id give it a try.
3. Dianna was in a race she wanted to do to prove to her sisters and mother that she is strong and she can do things like this. As she was running along the cliffs, she saw a boat crash. She swam out to save a girl. She isn't supposed to bring “Mortals” on her island. She gave the girl CPR and brought her back to life and took her to a cave. The race was already over by about now.
4. Dianna swam out to save a girl from a shipwreck. She couldn't leave her there to die. She left this very important race to save the life of a girl. That's brave and a strong thing to do.
5. That women are strong and can do things too. It proves that we can be brave. Anyone can. In the future i hope for more women to be strong, brave and independent like dianna.

1. My book is called "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" by Douglas Adams.

2. I wanted to read this book because it's one of the classics and because I enjoy reading sic-fi books.

3. So far, earth blew up and the main character, Arthur, is traveling with his alien friend called Ford. They end up on a ship full of Vogons and are faced to listen to some of their awful poetry before they are launched into space and picked up by the Improbability Drive. Then, with two other characters named Zaphod and Trillan, they fly to a long-dead planet called Magrathea.

4. The important events in the book so far have been the earth being blown up and the characters finding Magrathea. The demolition of the earth set of the adventure that Ford and Arthur are on, and the discovery of Magarthea is important because the planet is so old that it has just become a bedtime story. It used to be the wealthiest planet in the galaxy, and I feel like the character's findings there will be interesting to read about.

5. I feel a personal connection to this book, or at least the very beginning of it, because I, like Arthur, don't want to leave my home.

1. What is the title of your book? Who is the author?
The book I am reading is called “Sapphique” by Catherine Fisher.
2. Why did you choose this book?
I originally couldn’t find a book so when Ms.Carol lead me to it, I found it interesting and went with it.
3. Comprehension: What has happened so far in the book?
So far, the main character Attia has been introduced, and told to have a rough past. She is found walking through a gasping crowd around a well known magician, not a illusionist, a full true magician, who was thought to never return, but had, and when asking for volunteers to meet their true fear, Attia raises her hand and is chosen. When her turn arrives, she is reminded of her past and then laid down on a hard couch, and stabbed through the heart with a sword. Once brought back to life through the power of magic, she is brought to the center of the circle to bow, just to find herself opening her eyes to her arms around herself, hugging herself. She then walks into a room where the magician is and is “hired” to the job as if it was all just an act.
4. Significance Question
*Why should people care about this story?
I believe people should care for this story because it is an interesting idea and so far seems to have been performed greatly.
5. Connection Question
*How can you connect this piece to current events, to the past, or to the future?
I believe I can connect this book to everyone who has seen a magician. For the time being, we are in aw, but once revealed from another source, the illusion is over.

October Reading Log #1
8/22/2017

Introduce us to your book! You should have read at least 15 pages of your book so far
(if not more).
In your writing, please tell us about the following:

1. What is the title of your book? Who is the author?
The title of my book is whiskey words and a shovel by R.h Sin

2. Why did you choose this book?
I've wanted to get into reading poetry and I read a couple pages and it sounded very interesting. I also want to start writing poetry as well so i want to look at different poets writings.

3. Comprehension: What has happened so far in the book?
It starts talking about woman looking for validation of love from men who can't give it to them. It's about women who have been hurt by men and what that does to them long term.

4. Significance Question (Pick one or more of the following choices to answer):
*What has happened so far that feels important? Why?
*Is there any part that you've read so far that gives you a clue to why the book as a whole is valuable? Which part or parts?
*Why should people care about this story?
*Is this piece relevant to everyone? Who? Who isn't it relevant to?
I think this book is relevant to people who have experienced significant heartbreak in their lives, or have been in a house without a mom or dad. The theme i think of is false love or loss of love and i think a majority of people have experienced in their lives so it's easy to relate to.
*If you had to distill the most important parts of what you've read so far to one sentence, what would that sentence be?

5. Connection Question (Pick one or more of the following choices to answer):
*How can you connect this piece to current events, to the past, or to the future?
( I don't know if this question applies to the book because it's a poetry book.) I think this piece can connect to the past present and future. Human emotions haven’t changed or evolved, as long as we’re around we will always experience heartbreak and loss and this book just brings series of specific events into light.

1. What is the title of your book? Who is the author?
My book is In The Time of the Butterflies by Julia Alverez

2. Why did you choose this book?
I’m interested in mysteries/drama and this book is about basically the mystery of the 4th sister who’s 3 other sisters have died, but no one knows she’s alive.

3. Comprehension: What has happened so far in the book?
So far we’re introduced to Dedé who is explaining the streets and how they don’t have names to a woman over the phone who seems to be obviously new to the area. She is getting ready for the annual interviews that roll around every November and dreading the questions about why she was the one who survived, hoping they will just look around the house, and listen her stories of her and the sisters’ childhood, maybe enjoy her garden and then leave.

4. Significance Question
*What has happened so far that feels important? Why?
Dedé is introduced in her garden in great detail which she seems to be associated with as a character. I can also infer that she is shy or afraid since she is described to duck behind her flowers every time a car passes by.

*Is there any part that you've read so far that gives you a clue to why the book as a whole is valuable? Which part or parts?
I feel like the garden is going to be important since that’s where the character is introduced, and the title including butterflies probably has that connection so I have a feeling the butterflies and her flowers are going to be a running theme or focus throughout the book.

5. Connection Question
*How does any part of this connect to any other area of your learning? (Maybe other subjects/texts that you have studied in the past or present?)
One connection I made immediately was that Dedé and the people around her speak spanish, and she even finds herself explaining to that american woman in the first chapter slipping in spanish words, and thinking to herself with spanish phrases. I recognise a lot from things we’ve learned Mr. Julio’s class so it makes the reading slightly easier but hopefully by the time we near the end of the semester I won’t be needing to look anything up anymore and it can flow just how Dedé thinks.

1. What is the title of your book? Who is the author?
Spider-Man Volume 1. Story by Bill Jeans and Brian Micheal Bendis.

2. Why did you choose this book?
I couldn't find any other books and I am interested in Spider Man

3. Comprehension: What has happened so far in the book?
Peter got bitten by the spider. The Osborn company wanted to invite him for a private tour to "say sorry" but they took a sample of his blood. Peter has the upper hand on his bully now. The Osborn company want to keep track on him to see how this human experiment goes.

4. Significance Question (Pick one or more of the following choices to answer):

This story is relevant/relatable to anyone who has felt like an outcast. Peter is the nerdy and not popular kid at school who always gets bullied, so he can relate to lots of kids.

5. Connection Question (Pick one or more of the following choices to answer):
*How can you connect this piece to current events, to the past, or to the future?
*What personal connections can you draw to these two chapters? Do these characters remind you of anyone or anything in your own life?

1. What is the title of your book? Who is the author?

Gunslinger by Stephan King

2. Why did you choose this book?

Because I have read many books by King, and this is one of his more popular book series.

3. Comprehension: What has happened so far in the book?

In my book, you have met the main characters Roland, and the Man in Black. There has been mainly character development, and you get to know the characters intentions.

4. Significance Question (Pick one or more of the following choices to answer):
*If you had to distill the most important parts of what you've read so far to one sentence, what would that sentence be?

Roland is the last of his kind, he is fighting the Man in Black who wants to take powers from children to destroy the universe.

5. Connection Question (Pick one or more of the following choices to answer):
*Do these two chapters connect to anything you've read in the past? What? How?

This book reminds me of a book called Hunter, in both books you have main characters who are chaotic good. They do whats right, but they will do what ever it takes to get it done. I personally love these characters because they always have a new purpose, they never get boring.

I think it is cool that you are exploring more of King's writing! The "Man in Black" sounds very scary, yet interesting. I also am wondering why the man in black wants to take powers from children and if you feel his reason is anywhere close to valid.

2. I chose this book because I like Yound Adult Fiction books.

3. In this book so far the main character is Luke and he doesn't talk much he is a new kid at school and he had to change his name from Luke to Lee because Luke is safer then Lee. Jen's father takes care of Luke, he helps him regesters at school.

4. I think what seems Important so far is that the person who takes care of him is Jen's Father. Also from what I have read so far is that their's lots of lligal things where Luke lives.

My book is called changes in latitude and it is a very typical girl meets boy book. THe author is jen malone and I read one of her other books over the summer. I chose this book because it is very wanderlust esc, and it involves sailing all the way from oregon to mexico which I thought was super interesting. My book started out with the main character cassie, getting in trouble with her from mom for sneaking and coming home intoxicated. Cassie parent’s recently went through a divorce and she knows the reason was that her mom cheated on her father, yet her mom isn’t aware that she knows that. Cassie's Mother informs her that they will be sailing to mexico, which her mother will get paid for. Cassie and her younger brother will be spending the first four months of the school year “boatschooled”. Cassie is beyond furious that her last high school summer is ripped out of reach by her family destroying mother. Cassie then meets a boy who turns out to be sailing next to them on a separate boat. I Think this piece is relevant to everyone because everyone feels at one point that they’re parent is making their life harder than it has to be. I can connect personally to what I’ve read so far because my parents are divorced and the main character is currently going through her parents break-up. Which is though for anyone, not matter the conditions.

I chose hunger games by Suzanne Collins because Carol suggested it and i've heard many good things about the book.

The main character is Katniss who is a 16 year old girl who lives in District Twelve in the country Panem with her mother and sister Prim who is 11. She goes hunting and gathering in the woods with her friend Gale who is 18, katniss is worried because today is reaping day the day when people form the Capitol draw names for the Hunger games.

The most important thing so far is reaping day because the books called Hunger Games for a reason so i'm guessing someone katniss cares about or herself will be chosen to participate in the games. In the book katniss mentioned she protects her sister as much as she can so the lottery scares her that her sister could be chosen.

Do these characters remind you of anyone or anything in your own life? Katniss kind of reminds me of my sister because growing up she always tried to protect me and i can imagine if we were put in the books situation she would feel helpless to.

1. What is the title of your book? Who is the author?

The book I am reading is War and Peace by Leo Tolstoy.

2. Why did you choose this book?

I choose this book because it gives insight to Russian politics at that time and also delves into philosophy.

Comprehension: What has happened so far in the book?
So far, Pierre, the son of count Bezukhov has been attending many parties around St. Petersburg. At one party he got into an argument about whether Napoleon was a good man or not. The other aristocrats claimed that since he committed regicide he was a monster, but Pierre though there was more to it than that. He claimed that he fought for freedom and liberty. Than he left the party to his friend Count Andres house, where he then had a conversation. Count Andres wife then came in and they got into an argument on why he wants to go to war. Andre, in side, believed that marriage had taken all his freedom, and he was trying to get a way.

4. Significance Question (Pick one or more of the following choices to answer):
*What has happened so far that feels important? Why?

So far Count Bezukhov has become incredibly ill. This is incredibly important since Pierre is an illegitimate child, and therefore he can’t legally inherit the property and money from the Count. Count bezukhov cousin's grandson is the legitimate heir to the Bezukhov property, but Count Bezukhov has apparently sent a letter to the Tsar, which may allow Pierre to inherit the property and money. If that happens than this would raise a family feud since the Bezukhov family is very powerful.

5. Connection Question (Pick one or more of the following choices to answer):

*What other relationships/connections can you draw between these two chapters and your life, the world, other literature, history, or other art?

Political arguments. Pierre was arguing that Napoleon was a great man, while everyone was arguing against him. This is seen everywhere in life since politics is an essential part of our country.

I think it is really cool that you are reading a book about Russian history and what the world was like back then. It seems cool that at parties people were debating about freedom. I will be interested to hear about how you feel about what the characters are discussing, and good luck sticking with a book that is that long.

The title of the book that I'm reading is called THE FIFTH ANGEL by Tim Green.I chose this book because when I read the back it caught my attention, this type of book isn't generally my type of book but i wanted to try out something new and i'm really glad i chose it because it gives me that feeling you get when you don’t remember that you’re reading. When your so captured by a book that you forget you’re reading word. All you see are the descriptions and conversations that are being played out like a movie in your head. You don't even think about it. Then before you know it, you've read 100 pages without realizing it. That's probably the best feeling in the world.

So far of what i understand that’s happening in this book is that one of the main characters Jack has a 15 year old daughter that gets kidnapped and raped, he himself is a lawyer but can't do nothing about it himself he can't represent himself for his daughter so he ask his best friend to be his lawyer to send him to the chair or to at least get a life time sentence in jail for the man that destroyed his daughter. Things don't exactly go the way that he wants them to. The evidence that proved that Tupp kidnapped his daughter and raped her, the blood the duct-tape it's all in the van and the judged decided to exclude the main evidence. Tupp only gets 2 years of prison. From there everything goes wrong for Jack his wife diverse him he becomes an alcoholic and his daughter . . . his daughter is so traumatized she can't get close to men she's frightened of them she was really hurt both physically and mentally really bad. On another part of the U.S Amanda is with her family, she's an F.B.I agent , a serial killer investigator. She was eating breakfast when she got a phone call, it was her boss and the call had something to do with the serial killer case she's on. The guy got to someone, a 14 year old.She goes to investigate the site and sees a guy that look a lot like the serial killer they were looking for, she points it out to her partner and they both decide to follow the dude. They follow him till they get to this liquor store that held apartments on the second floor . She goes through the front entrance while her partner Marco goes through the back, but before they leave each other they both pull out their guns. Amanda goes in and knocks on the first door but it was this middle aged lady's apartment she goes next door but she hears something strange she opens the door and a hundred os so cats appeared and watched he move silently across the living room twos the bathroom. That's when she sees a man crouching over a body, then the man looks up and sees amanda and smiles. He slits marcos throat the second right after that she shoots the man.
This book is really valuable to me, because it shows how that one thing can shatter a person's life. How it can also affect the lives of the people that care for them. Like parents, just, ask your parents how much they love you, and if they would go to the extremes if something comes to happen to you. How they can bottle up so much hurt the way they can keep it inside. How parents . . . how they blame themselves if something happens to their children. It shows truth in emotion, despair, and desperation. To do something to take away the pain, the pain that would scar their children the pain that they could never heal. The desperation. Like in the part where Jack starts to become an alcoholic, the way he was desperate to try and be there for his little girl but the way that Tupp broke his daughter traumatized her so much that she can't come close to men, she's that terrified of guys that she starts screaming like if the were killing her.

A connection i have with this book is that I’ve read a book sorta like this. It's not exactly like this book but it has a complicated but intense, interesting, and serious topic. Where there is a lady and her husband gets killed. After that the killer goes for her and her little daughter and she doesn't know what to do or who to trust anymore. She starts going to therapy because she starts to go a little crazy, but she figures out that the psychologist that she's going to, well not her actual doctor but his colleagues are were the ones that killed her husband and they are the ones after her and her daughter. The book is mostly about how trust can easily be broken and not easily mended.

The book that i am reading is Stephen King's The Shining. I choose this book after watching the movie of the same name, after looking at reviews online. I realized that one of the most popular complaint was that compared to the book, the movie was garbage compared to the book. I wanted to see the view of these people so I decided to pick up the book. The book starts off with Jack, married to Wendy and had a son with her named Danny. Jack is interviewed by Ullman about tending to the heater inside of the Overlook hotel during the winters. While people explain the heaters to Jack he has flashbacks to when he was drunk and threw Danny on the floor, breaking his arm. Meanwhile Danny misses Jack and waits to sit by the curb and wait, he thinks about divorce and how horrified he is of the idea of a divorce. So far Jack craves a drink, despite the fact that he broke his own sons arm in a drunken angry rage, this idea seems to be the most interesting to me because it showed his true character. Jack seems to be a drunk, who claimed to kick his addiction, but it still lies deep beneath him. This relates to the failure of grit and a loss of a growth mindset. Jack has a craving that will inevitably be satisfied one way or another, and I take that as a failure.

The book I read is called Graceling by Kristin Cashore. This book is about a young girl who is an incredibly skilled fighter. I chose this book because my older brother, who has already read the book, recommended it to me.

This book starts off with her in a dark dungeon lurking around. She sees 5 guards and knocks them out before they knew what was happening, then makes a swift escape.

Later, it is explained that she is an extremely skilled fighter, who was graced with incredible fighting skill since age 8. It is also revealed that she knocks the guards out because she believes she has killed enough already by taking orders from someone else. I think this shows a lot about her character so it is very important.

I can connect this to peer pressure. She killed people because she took orders from someone, and now she feels terrible about it. That is just like peer pressure, because people pressure you into doing regrettable things.

1. My book is called the Collapsing Empire and it is by John Scalzi.

2. I chose this book because it is about a fictional world where they use space to travel, which seemed cool because I could decide what I think the world is like.

3. So far in the book Cardenia’s father, Batrin’s end is coming close, and every day Cardenia is there by his side. Batrin over his lifetime, has basically been the president of everything, so everyone knows who he is and what he is doing at all times. Outside of where he was staying, hundreds of people stayed, yelling to him with well wishes in their mouths. Cardenia also begins to discuss with her chief of staff about what to say in a speech that they will be saying to the public. Overall, everyone is beginning to be prepared for the emperoxes death.

4. *What has happened so far that feels important? Why?
One thing that has happened so far that feels important is that in a private room, Cardenia set her drink on a book and her chief of staff explained to her how horrible it was that she set her drink on that book because it was thousands of years old and was one of a kind. This felt important because it shows how knowledgeable people are that are working close to them and that they really care about the memorabilia that is relates to Batrin or other important people on their planet.

5. *How can you connect this piece to current events, to the past, or to the future?
I can connect this piece to the future because in the future we could have more accessible space travel and people could be inhabiting other planets. This makes you think about what that would be like and how it would make our world different. It made me think about if I would stay here or leave to another planet.

Do these characters remind you of anyone or anything in your own life?
This book reminds me of when my grandma was in the hospital because my mom was always there with her and there were a lot of people who were always cheering her on and making sure she was doing okay.

The title is The Hobbit. The author is J. R. R. Tolkien. I chose this book because I have watched the lord of the rings series many times. This is a book where i'm already interested in the concept and i've been waiting to read it.
3. Comprehension: What has happened so far in the book?
In the book so far Gandalf visits bilbo and asks him to join him on an adventure. Bilbo refuses a few times before he gets up from smoking his pipe and goes inside. Gandalf before he leaves puts an invisible mark on the door. The next night frodo got a knock on the door, expected Gandalf to be back. Instead it was a dwarf who came in told bilbo his name and pledged his service. The dwarf came in and started eating. Then another knock. Another dwarf and the same words. Name and pledged their service. Then 2 showed up. Then three. Then 2 more. All came in told their name, pledged their service and came in and ate. After all the dwarfs ate they sang a sad song of a lost home. The misty mountain.
4. Significance Question (Pick one or more of the following choices to answer):
What seems important is the song that the dwarfs sang. The song was about taking back their lost home from a dragon. When you sang it to yourself you could tell the dwarfs had a connection to this song and it also proved this song was no tale.
5. Connection Question (Pick one or more of the following choices to answer):
One thing i can connect to from the pages i've read so far is when you find that song that can really mean something to you at that point. Like if your really sad and you listen to a sad song over and over. It means something to you it becomes apart of you for that short time. One more connection I can make is to Gandalf not taking no for an answer when Bilbo says no. Even if you don't want to do something sometimes you just have to do it for everyone around you or yourself.

1. The title of the book is Mummy.
2. The author of this book is Caroline B. Cooney.
3. The story is about someone's classmates planning on stealing a beautiful ancient mummy from a museum and then hang it on a bell tower. 4. Why I chose this story is because I like learning about ancient Egypt.
What is going on in the book right now? A girl in the story named Emlyn that a brilliant thief that would never use guns, knives, or hurt people is making a mental library and thinking of wrong things to do and how to do them. Actually, Emylyn had never did anything wrong at any time or for and reason, because she was a good person with good parents, and had a good school among mainly good people. Emlyn studies hard and sing in chorus. She's only stolen a few pencils, and barely done any bad things. She also has imaginary shelves in her mental library where she can store her bad plans at. Once Emlyn read a woman's magazine with pencil thin models whose makeup and hair had a cruel geometry to make you really jealous and shiver. A connection to this story is that I would sometimes think of doing bad and destructive things and organize my bad actions but never did them.

1. My book is titled Thirteen Reasons Why. The Author is named Jay Asher
2. I choose this book because i like books that i can relate to and book that relate to people in the same why.
3. In the beginning of the book it started at a post office and it was a girl sending it to the next person on the list. Then it end up on clay Jensen front door step where he picked up a package with his name on it and no return address. So he took it inside and opened it up with scissors and saw a bunch of tapes and so he had an old stereo that his dad got for very little at a yard sale.On the tapes there was different number on one there was 1&2 on another there was 3&4 and so on and on the 7th tape there was 13 the last tape.SO after that he put the first tape in and started listening it was Hannah baker's voice she was talking about the rules of the tapes and how these tapes were the thirteen reasons why she killed herself and how clay was one of those reasons. Clay was surprised on what he heard.so the first piece of the tape was about a boy named Justin and was Hannah's first kiss and etc. And while clay was listening he was asking himself why this mattered to him.
4. The clue in the book about the value of the whole story is when she started the tapes and how these are all the thirteen reasons she killed herself. I feel like each tape is just trying to make that person see and feel what she was feeling when she was going through all these problems.
5.I feel that i can connect to that story because i feel that it is say that don’t do anything stupid because in the end people will suffer or be emotional hurt. Like for example if you say something rude to one of your friends and you end up not being friends no more that is kind of like all these people that made her kill herself but more serious than losing a friend.

The Fellowship of the Book by J.R.R. Tolkien

2. Why did you choose this book?

I watched all of the movies and loved, so I decided towards reading the books to get the entire experience

3. Comprehension: What has happened so far in the book?

Frodo, a hobbit who was recently given one of the 12 rings was tasked to deliver outside of the shire. The shire is consider a safe area for all hobbits alike. Stepping near the edge or outside is severely not recommend. Meeting many allies and many foes, his journey of 50 days was ended on a good and bad note. He was nearly killed but saved at what was considered last second.

4. If you had to distill the most important parts of what you've read so far to one sentence, what would that sentence be?

Frodo was tasked with journey with a ring of invisibility which caused him to almost be slain and being put under the dark lord's control

5. What other relationships/connections can you draw between these two chapters and your life, the world, other literature, history, or other art?

When it comes to making friends, I have never been great at doing so. I don't have the best social skills and I always appeared sloppy in speaking. In this book, Frodo is acted nice to from many people as of Hobbits, Humans, and Elves Without saying too much. For Frodo, it seems impossible for him to go on an adventure alone and I must say the same thing about myself.

The title of the book that I chose is called Whiskey Words & a shovel I, by r.h Sin. I chose this book because I loved the meaningful quotes they used and how many quotes I can connect too. My favorite quotes in that book would probably have to be “She was the flame that no one could put out, burning brighter than the sun, refusing to be taken lightly, she was driven by all the things that caused her pain and what failed to weaken her flames became fuel, she is you.” I really like this quote because when I see this quote I think of it as a motivation for everyone. I feel like people should read this book because there is so many quotes that can that are very valuable that you can probably relate too like I can. This book is manly about relationships with eithier family, friends, or just relationships in general.

In your writing, please tell us about the following:

1. What is the title of your book? Who is the author?
The book that I am reading is called 13 reasons why and Jay Asher is the author of the book.

2. Why did you choose this book?
I chose this book because it’s about a girl named Hannah who committed suicide and a boy named Clay found a box of tapes that has voice recordings of Hannah where she explained thirteen reasons why she committed suicide. And I found this interesting because i got so interested in why Hannah committed suicide.

3. Comprehension: What has happened so far in the book?
So basically clay found a box in front of the house. Clay played the tape and the girl who committed suicide (Hannah) was explaining how if you have the tapes sent to you then one of the tapes was about you. Clay starts to freak out. He starts to question himself, asking himself why were you the cause of Hannah’s death.

4. Significance Question (Pick one or more of the following choices to answer)
*Why should people care about this story?
I think people should care about this story because it’s about suicide. And in the book Hannah talks about the struggles that she had like for example bullying. And that if you bully someone that person can get affected. And it could end up someone killing themself because of people. And like for example in our class we learned about respect and how it’s important.

5. Connection Question
*How can you connect this piece to current events, to the past, or to the future?
I can connect this to current events because I know people who have been bullied and have got depression because of that. And in the news they talk about how bullying is something serious that should be dealt with. And it breaks my heart when there’s an article that says that someone just died because of depression and it ended up as suicide. It also breaks my heart when I realize that everyday someone is getting bullied.

1. What is the title of your book? Who is the author?
The tittle of my book is Me and Earl and the Dying Girl

2. Why did you choose this book?
I chose this book because on the cover of the book it says "and a dying girl". It was very interesting on how the title of the book said it in that way, so I wanted to read more about what else the book can say and try to find out more things that relate the girl and the story.

3. Comprehension: What has happened so far in the book?
What happened so far in the book was Greg S. Gaines, said that high school sucks. Its because when you get introduced thing in senior year Greg said they start to talk about existential question. He is a senior at Benson high school close to an inner city at pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. At Benson High there are jocks but most of them are African American and if you annoy them they get mad, but they have no interest in any political things.

4. *What has happened so far that feels important? Why?
Whats very important in this book is that Greg S. Gaines just started out as a senior. He mostly hangs out with a bunch of groups, like the church kids, jocks, goths, geeks and etc. Communication or interacting with others is very important when you grow older. Also that He just doesn't move to a group to another on the same day. and how you have to keep a low profile.

*Why should people care about this story?
People should care about this because Greg just talks about his life and how high school sucks, but later in the book Greg had a plan for himself and greg's mom makes him be friends with a girl that has cancer. Greg thought she was dying, but Earl and greg made her feel happy because of them being her friend.

5.*How can you connect this piece to current events, to the past, or to the future?
It connects to to me in the past because Greg struggles in school and I do to. Greg struggles becoming friends with others because Greg is diagnosed with chronic allergic rhinitis. Its where you can't breathe with your nose clearly and in 6th grade, this girl named Rachel has luekemia and him were in the same class, but weren't friends before. So Rachel's mom and Greg's mom though it was an awesome idea to get back in touch with each other and spend time together. I didn't think I would be able to communicate or make new friends because I moved from San Diego to San Marcos and I struggled with that. It connects to me to because I didn't like school as much and wasn't that interested into making more friends like Greg.

*What other relationships/connections can you draw between these two chapters and your life, the world, other literature, history, or other art?
I think it connects to me and to the world because Earl and Greg made a film and love cinema. Rachel wanted to see the film while she went through her chemotherapy. A girl named Madison that also goes to Benson High mentioned that Earl and Greg should make a film about Rachel. I made a film with my cousins about bullies and at the end of the ilm we did we said never bully or something like that. To the world because every person has some happiness in them and Rachel, Earl, and Greg all had that friendship relationships and like in reality most people that have cancer, just fight and be happy like Rachel in the book.

1. My book is The Giver By Lois Lowry

2. I chose this book Because i didn't know what to read so Ms.Carol helped me find a book that matched my interests.

3. In this book so far it talked about how the main character jonas lives in a Utopian society and explains how at different ages you get different rewards. An example of this is at age 9 you get a bike to ride and at age 12 you get assigned a job.

4. People should care about this story because it's what a Utopian society could look like in the future and how it could go wrong.

5. This connected to my past because in 8th grade we did a mini project where we made our own Utopian society, read books about Dystopian and Utopian societies, and we also watched a movie about a Dystopian society called 2081.

Reading Log #1

The title of my book is Walden and Civil Disobedience, written by Henry David Thoreau

I was recommended this book by Mrs.Carol.

So far the story has been about the author of the book, Henry David thoreau’s life and about two books he wrote, Walden and civil disobedience. The book talks about the people he has a connection to or what he thinks about certain political or environmental issues. As I am still reading the introduction of the book what I have gathered the book is going to be, is his two novels, Walden/Civil disobedience, With the two novels being combined into one book.

One instance of the story that I felt important was when it was mentioned that after coming back after an experiment of seeing how his ideals would change after living alone for a year in the wild with no direct dependance of people of society, he went back to his home town, only to be arrested for not paying his taxes. He was arrested even though he could have payed, and the officer who arrested him even offered to pay for him, but he refused them because he thought that the government was corrupt and didn’t want to support a government he didn’t agree with, and when his friend went to the jail and asked him “Why are you in there” he responded with “Why aren’t you in here”. I personally found this part important because it shows thoreau is a man not afraid to stand up for what he believes in no matter who it is pressuring him. People who can stand up for what they believe in the face of a higher power like the government with the consequences being going to jail, are far and few between, so my respect goes out to them.

One way I could make a connection from the story to real life, is that many people nowadays are against certain policies of the government, especially so with the current president, and many people are standing up for it by going to protests and rallies.

1. The book I am reading is called “The Perks of Being a Wallflower” by Stephen Chbosky.

2. I chose this book because it was recommended to me in the 8th grade by one of the inclusion specialists.

3. So far, we have met Charlie, who is going into highschool with excellent grades and likes to write. He is writing to someone who he feels he can talk to and accept him, which is us, the reader. He writes in letters, so he will always start off with “Dear Friend,” and end with “Love always, Charlie.” He is always talking about his family, which is his older sister, who is the middle child, who has great grades and is always doing something with her current boyfriend. His older brother who is a football player at Penn State, who Charlie never gets to talk to. Finally, his parents, his mom, who likes to cry at TV shows and is very nice. His dad, who doesn't show his emotions too often. Overall, his family is good, it could be much worse. At school, recently a boy supposedly killed himself, who was friends with Charlie. But Charlie doesn’t seem to be too upset over it.

4. *Is there any part that you've read so far that gives you a clue to why the book as a whole is valuable? Which part or parts?
Yes, the book talks about very serious subjects, such as family problems, bullying, and suicide. People who may deal with these things might want to read this book to help maybe get an idea of what to do in these situations and know that they are not alone.

5. *Do these two chapters connect to anything you've read in the past? What? How?
This book shows a lot of similarities with the book “The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime” by Mark Haddon. Both books deal with serious subjects, like mental illnesses. They are also written similarly, both books are written by the protagonist in first person, so you notice a lot of run-on sentences, like the writer is talking.

Later he finds a big plump boy with specs aka glasses.
Why should people care about this story? Because on what I have read so far this book is full of drama and suspense and yes it may start of slow, but it seems like they describe every thing so clearly as if you were there.

What is the title who is it by? Why are you reading this book? What has happened?
The title of my book is A Beautiful Composition of broken written by r.h. Sin. I have chosen to read this book, because it is a book of poetry which is something I am very passionate about.
Within in this book being the second version of whisky words and a shovel the book is very evolved around love/confidence but also heartbreak and struggles of daily life. The book contains some very powerful poems that you can find are all in lowercase letters just as rupi kaur had done. Mostly all I could find on as of why he would do this is for free structure of writing, and that punctuation adds importance to words, that were capitalization is unnecessary. Also the book contains a lot of second person point of view poems and I like to think this is because he is speaking to the reader as if he is giving them advice are trying to reason with them.
Why should people care about this story?
I have come to a loving of this book, which I know is not for everyone, because not everyone enjoys poetry like I do, but truly it’s a very good read. If you are a writer of some sort it can provide you with so much inspiration from the depth of the poetry and if not it’s a good poetry book to start off with. It gives you things to think about there are many aspects you can connect to within the book and as I had mentioned it’s sorta speaks to you, since he likes to write in second person for a lot of his poems. One of my favorites so far is called soft light- your softness is your gift your sensitivity is beautiful most of who you are will go unappreciated by men who don't deserve you.
What personal connections can you make to what you read?
For this I will write 1 poems from what I have read, and say how I personally connected to it. whatever helps.- you have been strong for so long cry if you need to scream if it helps. This poem means so much to me, just as a female this high key is just so nice to read emotions are hard to control as a girl. And it sometimes is just so needed to cry and scream and just throw a big fit cause it’s hard being a girl and being expected of so much.

1.What is the title of your book? Who is the author?
I am reading ‘Life In Motion’’ by Misty Copeland.

2. Why did you choose this book?
It was a gift to me, but also I am a dancer, so I knew that I would be very interested in the book and would be able to make connections to my life.

3. Comprehension:
*What has happened so far in the book?
So far in the book, Misty has explained her rough childhood. She grew up with many siblings, their mother, and a difficult financial situation. Misty’s father had moved far away; therefore her mom was always with a new boyfriend. Sometimes it would be just a couple months until one day Misty’s mom would tell the kids to pack up their belongings, because they would be moving away. Misty was constantly moving schools, which led to her having little to no friends whatsoever. Eventually she ended up joining her school’s drill team, which led to her recognizing her passion for ballet.

4. Significance Question (Pick one or more of the following choices to answer):
*Why should people care about this story?
I think people should care about this story because the main character goes through a real life situation than many people may go or have gone through in their life. Misty talks about how she had to work excessively for her dreams to turn into reality, so I think others should respect and recognize this.

*Is this piece relevant to everyone? Who? Who isn't it relevant to?
I think this story may provide an interest to anyone, but specifically dancers or ones whom are involved in or appreciate the arts. This book talks about more than dance; it talks a lot about important life experiences that could benefit really anyone who may read it.

5. Connection Question (Pick one or more of the following choices to answer):
*What personal connections can you draw to these two chapters? Do these characters remind you of anyone or anything in your own life?
Obviously I can connect my passion of dance, to Misty Copeland’s love for dance. She and what she has accomplished is a wonderful example of what I to aspire to be. Her dedication, self commitment and concentration are vital parts to really anything you want to pursue; but to me specifically ballet.

1. My book is Snow Crash by Neal Stephenson.

2. I choose this book because I like Sci-fi stories and because my father recommended it to me.

3. So far we have learned that the main character's name is Hiro Protagonist and he worked for a pizza place that promises to have the pizza to your door in thirty minutes, or you would get it for free and the owner (who also runs the mafia) will come personally and apoligize. Hiro gets back to the pizza place and is given a 20 minute old pizza, and the house is 12 miles away. So he races across the road through traffic, and eventually gains a "hitchhiker" who stuck a magnetic harpoon to his car and drove along with him via skateboard. He eventually goes into a neighborhood to try to get rid of the hitchhiker, but ends up crashing. The hitchhiker asks if he can help deliver the pizza, so Hiro gives it to her, along with his card, and she skates off.

4. So far the most significant pieces to the story are that Hiro is a freelance hacker, he gave his card to Y.T. (the girl), and that he got fired from his pizza delivery job.

5. This story so far looks to be completely unique, although the whole "future pizza delivery guy" reminds me of Fry from a show called Futurama. I also like the "nickname" the author calls him in the first chapter or two, which is "THE DELIVERATOR".

1. The book I chose to read is The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho

2. I chose The Alchemist because it got recommended to me by my step-dad who already read it.

3. So far our main character Santiago has finished sleeping in an abandoned church, and started along a four day journey toward the city of Andalusia with his herd of sheep. Along the way he starts to talk about a girl. This is the daughter of the merchant whom Santiago will sell his sheep's wool to. He continues to talk about how he finds this girl to be entrancing and how for the first time he wants to stay in the same place for the rest of his life. He then remembers about a lady named Tarifa who can interpret dreams. He goes and gets his dream interpreted. In Santiago's dream a child is petting his sheep when all of a sudden that child transports them to the Egyptian pyramids. Tarifa ends up saying that he should go the the pyramids.

4. I think Santiago going to get his dream interpreted was super important. He will probably end up going the pyramids which will be the plot of the book.

5. Santiago is a traveling Shepard. He just got told by the dream interpreter Tarifa that he should go to the Egyptian pyramids to find a treasure. I can connect to this because I have done a lot of traveling. I have gone to Japan, all over California, Colorado, etc.

The title of my book is called “A Mango Shaped Space” by : Wendy Mass.
I choose this book because in the front cover of the book was interesting.
Their was a 13 year old girl named Mia who loved colors but kept it a secret because she doesn't want anybody to know.
Mia doesn't want anyone to know she loves colors because she is afraid of people not accepting her personality.
I think Mia doesn't want to be revealing her big secret because she’s afraid of people accepting her personality.
I think people should care about this story because there is a colorful world that people are ignoring.
I think this book is also important because in our future people may just like plain old colors that are not really shown in this world and without colors we would just be living in a world without colors.

Reading log #1
1. What is the title of your book? Who is the author?
The title of the book that I am currently reading is “The Picture of Dorian Gray” and it's written by Oscar Wilde.
2. Why did you choose this book?
I chose this book because I heard about it and it sounded very interesting to me. Also I wanted to challenge myself in reading, so I thought this was the perfect book for me.
3. Comprehension: What has happened so far in the book?
So far in this book not much has happened. Three main characters have been introduced, Basil Hallward, Lord Henry, and Dorian Gray. Basil Hallward is a painter and Lord Henry is a dear friend. Dorian Gray is a new friend and muse of Basil. The book started off With Henry and Basil looking at the the painting of Dorian, Henry insisted it was quite an amazing piece, and that he should bring it somewhere and show it off. But Basil didn’t want to, he said he saw to much of himself in the painting. Basil explained to him that two month before that day he had went to a “crush” also known as a crowded party. A women was showing him around and introducing him to everyone. Once he was introduced to Dorion, they became friends right away. Basil, started having this weird obsession over him and after that day they started to see each other almost everyday so basil could paint a picture of him, he explained. After Basil told all these great things about Dorian, to Henry he wanted to meet him, but he didn’t want him to, coincedently right after he said that his servant came and said that Mr. Gray was there to see him. He didn’t want Henry to meet him because he didn't want him to influence him, to change him from how he was. He than said that he would introduce them and that's what he did. They both entered the room where Gray was sitting next to the piano. Basil introduced them and after a little, Henry said that he had to leave but Dorion didn't want him to. He insisted him to stay, and if Henry left he would leave too. They both stayed and Henry shared how Basil didn't want them to meet because he would influence him. He asked if he was really a bad influence, and he answered with, “there's no such thing as good influence, Mr. Gray. All influence is immoral-immoral from the scientific point of view.” Mr. asked why, he explained that influencing a person is like giving them one's own soul. That’s where I’m at so far.
4. Significance Question (Pick one or more of the following choices to answer):
*If you had to distill the most important parts of what you've read so far to one sentence, what would that sentence be?
The painter, Basil, has made an interesting new friend, Dorian Gray, that he deeply likes, and his other friend, Lord Henry, wants to meet him.
5. Connection Question (Pick one or more of the following choices to answer):
*What other relationships/connections can you draw between these two chapters and your life, the world, other literature, history, or other art?
This is going to be a kind of weird connection but when basil started painting dorian gray, the first thing thing that I thought of and that connects is when the mona lisa was being painted, how both mona lisa and Dorian had to be very still for hours while they got painted.

The title of my book is Paper Towns and the author is John Green.
2. Why did you choose this book?
I choose this book because I've read a book by the same author John Green before . I also choose this book because when reading the short summary interested me to keep on reading.
3. Comprehension: What has happened so far in the book?
So far what has happened in the book is that the author has introduced me to the two main characters in the book, Margo Roth Spiegelman and Quentin Jacobsen. The book has explained their background and how they know each other, basically their relationship together. Quentin describes Margo as a miracle on the first page and how she is just an outgoing, wonderful, mysterious person. The book also explains how both Margo and Quentin are both next door neighbors and attend the same high school. They use to have a close relationship when they were younger but soon enough both grew apart and rarely talk during high school. But Quentin still admires her even though they have grown apart. Margo is a girl that doesn't follow the rules and is her own person.
4. Significance Question (Pick one or more of the following choices to answer):
*If you had to distill the most important parts of what you've read so far to one sentence, what would that sentence be?
That Quentin has strong feelings towards Margo and that Margo and Quentin were complete opposites because she did her own thing not caring if she gets in trouble or caught.
5. Connection Question (Pick one or more of the following choices to answer):
*Do these two chapters connect to anything you've read in the past? What? How?
Yes these 15 pages I read reminded me of The Fault in Our Stars because there by the same author but they also both have the “falling in love” type of theme in the book. As in The Fault in Our Stars too young teenagers met and both falling in love little by little.

Courage to Soar is the title to the the book I am reading and Simone Biles wrote it. I choose this book because I love her life story and also all what she has been thru. Si dar un the book i have learning that Simone got adopted by her grandparents because her mom was not being a good parent so her and her 3 months old sister got adopted by their grandparents and the 2 older siblings goyt adopted by the aunt. That libres on the same place as the mom. So far something important that has happen is the different dramatic situaciones Simone has had and still has gymnastics to help her. This book to help me understand that even though having personal situation doesn't stop you from having school as the top priority. The part where they separate Simone from her mom is not hard to her now that she's only one year old and doesn't have that much memories with her mom so it's easy to her to transfer to Texas with his grandparents with her little sister of three months. I would like to believe that people should care about this story because it's on not only a true story about a gymnast that got separated from her mom and give to a random family and then to her grandparents. It also shows how any girl can achieve her dreams having any situation in front of her to just overcome that challenge. now connecting myself it's easy because I've been separated of all my family and cousins even though I have a phone that I could talk to him everyday if I would like I don't have them to my side like I used to do when I was younger I was a little girl and I got separated from them but I had to overcome the challenge of having to say okay you you have to go and I have to go to school and do my best because I do want to be the best and go to college and be a good example to my brother and sister. At the beginning of chapter 2 it started saying when she was with this random family she would she couldn't do anything they had a trampoline in the backyard and she couldn't go on because they wanted to overprotect her this they don't want to hurt herself so she didn't get to go on it and that reminds me of the text we were in class of a childhood any Chinese restaurant by Susan.

1. What is the title of your book? Who is the author?
The book I am reading is “Astrophysics for people in a hurry” by Neil Degrasse Tyson.
2. Why did you choose this book? I choose this book because I love science and things like astrophysics. So, I found a book by the famous astronomer Neil Degrasse Tyson who could teach a person a lot of things about science. So, I also decided to get this book to expand my knowledge on science.
3. Comprehension: What has happened so far in the book? In the book“Astrophysics for people in a hurry,” Neil Degrasse Tyson goes into detail on explaining how space was created in the first chapter (explaining the physics behind “The Big Bang Theory.”) In the second chapter he goes into detail behind the history of astrophysicists and religion and how past theories and discoveries have affected theories today. The third chapter explains what light is and how radiation works. In the fourth chapter explains what gravity is and how it holds things together. The fifth Chapter goes into detail on theory or possibility of dark matter (The reason the universe is expanding.)

4. Significance Question (Pick one or more of the following choices to answer):
*What has happened so far that feels important? Why?
*Is there any part that you've read so far that gives you a clue to why the book as a whole is valuable? Which part or parts?
*Why should people care about this story?
Because astrophysics can give a lot of knowledge on how the universe works. Sometimes it can worry people. For example “The Big Rip,” when the universe expands so much the gravity loses its grasp on everything and the universe falls apart. Or how the universe could die one day with no more fuel in stars to burn. Basically the universe will be filled with black dwarfs and black holes for the rest of time and space. It’s a lot to take in at first and it’s a lot of knowledge.

*What personal connections can you draw to these two chapters? Do these characters remind you of anyone or anything in your own life?
*How does any part of this connect to any other area of your learning? (Maybe other subjects/texts that you have studied in the past or present?)
I can connect this to physics I learn now, because I can see this book helping me some what out in that subject. Why, well because it teaches me basic theories of physics that give me a brief tutorial on those theories.

1. What is the title of your book? Who is the author?
The title of my book is the Gunslinger Dark tower 1

2. Why did you choose this book?
I chose this book because it was recommended by a friend and Stephen king is an outstanding author and writter

3. Comprehension: What has happened so far in the book?

So far in the book it starts showing little descriptions of the cheaters and the desolated world around hime and I get introduced in the book to the gunslinger who is on the hunt for a guy who's name is the man in black

*If you had to distill the most important parts of what you've read so far to one sentence, what would that sentence be?

what happened so far is that the man in black is on the run from (I believe is the good guy) the Gunslinger and in the story it was talking about he had lost parts of what defined him in back on a place on Jericho hill which I presume was where a battle occurred there that changed his life which I believe is why he is after the man in black. Through the story it started talking about the Gunslinger and how he lost all of his friends and his horn which was apart of him and I feel like that whole description shapes this whole book because I believe that the man in black is the reason why the gunslinger is like this and in this book I think that from this passage alone it would set up the gunslinger as someone with a death wish and he would do anything to destroy the man in black and from his fierce independence it would be hard to connect or be with anyone who would join him through this journey

5. Connection Question (Pick one or more of the following choices to answer):
*How can you connect this piece to current events, to the past, or to the future?
*What personal connections can you draw to these two chapters? Do these characters remind you of anyone or anything in your own life?
*How does any part of this connect to any other area of your learning? (Maybe other subjects/texts that you have studied in the past or present?)
*Do these two chapters connect to anything you've read in the past? What? How?
*What other relationships/connections can you draw between these two chapters and your life, the world, other literature, history, or other art?

I feel like in the future if anything would happen and I lost everything I would be in the scenario like him where it would be hard to accept anyone in my life from living so independently for an extended period of time.

1. What is the title of your book? Who is the author?

The title of my book is called Crazy House, and the author is James Patterson.
2. Why did you choose this book?

I picked this book out because my mom loves James Patterson, and thought it would be perfect for me, and I love it so far.

3. Comprehension: What has happened so far in the book?

So far Cassie (the main character) sister is missing her name is Becca, she has been snatched from her cell (home). I think that this book started off with Becca being missing because it’s just part of the horror theme.

4. What has happened so far that feels important? Why?

It’s important to start off strong so then the reader wants to keep on reading it. Also it’s just a great idea to start off with someone missing.

5. How can you connect this piece to current events, to the past, or to the future?

I can’t really connect with this storyline so far, but I have watched the movie Split and it’s somewhat like the storyline.

The book I'm reading is The World is Flat by Thomas L. Friedman.

I was interested in this book mainly because of the title but also because I wondered what author can write 488 pages trying to prove a ridiculous theory.

So far in this book, the author has explained globalization. It has also presented the argumentative claim of this novel, the effect on technology advancing at an insane rate during this century it is actually flattening the globe. Not technically flattening the globe just the global industries.

People should care about this novel, because it is an updated version on what the future is going to be. Mainly, the future of teenagers who have grown up on technology and will probably have a future in technology careers.

I connect the book I'm reading to to history. I connect it to history because it also talks about the past effecting the present.
