1) Find the small sheets of green paper on your table.  Please write a suggestion for Ms. Johnson: the fastest and most effective way to bring our 9th grade Humanities class to attention (without shouting) is _____.  You can write more than one if you'd like.
Hint:  Think of some of the existing methods our class uses, like the chime, claps, or repeat phrases like "eyes and ears on me please" etc.

2) Look up when you are finished, and we will read this article as a class.

Zine Workshop:

~Three handmade examples and a short slide deck.
  • How-to - 3 examples (large format, mini book, accordion)
  • Brainstorms
  • Make your zine coherent (pick a topic, theme, or niche interest)
  • Requirements:  Choose a format and have at least 1 page done by break; 8 pages done by end of class

Have a great intersession and a fun and relaxing spring break!

Homework:
Think of ideas for the last two projects!

Thinking Tracker:
1. The U.S. Constitution protects citizens' freedom of speech.  The First Amendment says the government will not restrict free speech or press.  Not all countries have this protection for citizens.  What does freedom of speech and press look like in the U.S.?  What is it like in countries that do not have this protection?

2. Which independent reading book are you reading right now? Why did you choose the independent reading book that you did?

When you are done with these questions, please take out your independent reading book and read.

Thinking Tracker:
1. Make up a character. Give him or her a name, physical characteristics, personality traits. Describe him or her in as much detail as possible. You may use bullet points or full sentences. You may sketch out your character, but also use words to describe him/her.

2. Make up a conflict. What is something that your character could face? A bully? An internal conflict? A war? A dream that is unreachable? Describe this conflict in as much detail as possible. You may use bullet points or full sentences. You may sketch out the conflict, but also use words to describe it.

When you are finished, please silently
take out your independent reading book and read
